How do I know what fence slat will fit into my fence?
We have several slat options that you can choose from. First, you need to know the diamond size of your chain link fence. It will take you about 2 minutes to learn how to measure the diamond/mesh size of your chain link fence and another few minutes to actually measure it. Click here to learn How to Measure the Diamond Size for chain link fence.
Once you know the diamond size of your chain link fence you can click here for a comparison of the slats to determine which slat will work with your fence.
If you are still not sure you can always get a slat sample kit. A lot of customers like to order slat samples so each slat style can be inserted into their existing fence for a comparison. Samples also help to determine the color wanted. You will also receive a full color brochure.
Please call or email with any questions. We are always eager to help you determine which slat will work best for your fence.
Why isn’t there a fence slat that provides privacy for 2-1/2″ diamond chain link fence?
Usually 2-3/8″ and 2-1/2″ diamond/mesh chain link fabric is made from 11-1/2, 12-1/2 or 13 gauge wire. The higher the gauge number the thinner the wire. Also with larger diamond sizes the framework (top rail, posts, etc.) is usually not as strong. If there was a slat on the market that provided full privacy for a 2-1/2″ diamond, a strong wind would most likely blow the fence over. We have even seen strong winds blow over a 2″ diamond fence system with heavy duty framework. It is less expensive to purchase a fence system with a 2-1/2″ diamond, but you’ll sacrifice privacy when trying to find a slat. Usually larger diamond sizes will have less privacy from chain link fence slats. The smaller the diamond size the stronger the fence. A lot of customers with 2-1/4″, 2-3/8″ or 2-1/2″ diamond size of chain link will purchase Wing Slat and order the bottom channels to help prevent the slats from falling down in the fence (we haven’t heard of any bad experiences, but do so at your own risk). Remember, Wing Slat provides excellent privacy in a 2″ diamond but larger diamond sizes the privacy will be reduced.
There is an alternative to privacy fence slats – (wind privacy screening).
How come I can’t buy a partial bag of fence slats?
We have tried selling partial bags in the past. Over a years time we had hundreds of partial bags. It takes up too much inventory space. We needed a part time person maintaining these partial bags and ended up throwing most of them away. We try to provide the best price possible to our customers. By not offering partial bags we can pass on the savings to you. Plus, a lot of customers like having a partial bag incase someone steals one or they get vandalized. If you ask for a partial bag we will sell a partial bag but you’ll pay full price.
Can fence slats be cut?
Most fence slats can be easily cut. Depending on the slat you may have to cut the top or the bottom because of the way they are inserted into the fence and locked into place. The best and fastest method to cut fence slats is with a chop saw. Customers have even used a good pair of scissors, tin snips, band saw and tree pruners. Keep in mind, if you have over a few bags of fence slats using some of these methods would be very time consuming. We can cut these down to the length you need for a small fee. We typically charge $10.00 per bag.
Can Privacy Fence Slats be installed on a slope?
This depends on how the chain link fence was installed. Most times fence slats can be installed on a slope. Most times the slats need to be cut to accommodate the slope. Please see the detailed picture below.
